Back to Reality

Hej!

Well, after a fun week in the sun, it is now back to the not so cold winter we are having here in Seattle. (As you may have seen on the Olympic coverage, this has been an exceptionally warm winter season for us in the Pacific Northwest. Quite wimpy compared to what you guys are having in Stockholm).
So, even though it has been warm here, I was glad to have a week of vacation to kick start my training. Now I have to sustain the momentum.
Glad to have the blog and GC watchdog (aka El Maco) to keep me on track!

  1. Yo man. Great to hear from you. So did you do appr 40km last week? That has to be perceived as extremelly good! Are you aiming for min 25km per week now?

  2. So nice to hear... I did notice that some of your HR-curves looked a little bit strange, El Maco told me you experience problems with your "pulse-band" ? Or was it partly very "hilly" ?

  3. My goal will be to run 40 KM per week (will be slow, slow, slow)
I had to bail on the heart rate strap because I got a wierd rash all across my chest where it came in contact with my skin. That has never happened to me before. I hope it was just the hot weather, or the sunscreen I was using, but I will not wear the strap again until the rash is gone.

  4. Ok, I understand. I have also experienced problems when it's hot, I get "sores" on my chest, but that never happens in wintertime....

  5. Don't you think that running 40km per week is a little bit overdoing it? Isn't that like going from almost zero to a lot? You are famous for your slow ramping up of things. Should you really start to do 40km a week?

Is it even possible with your amount of work? Will you run during mornings or how will a standard week look like?

  6. Here's my plan:
    7 to 8 KM's Mon, Tues, Thurs, & Sat
    10 KM Sunday

I will increase my long run gradually over time.

When I have to work late, I will run on the treadmill.

For me, it is speed that kills. I need to work up to running faster.

  7. That's great. A little bit of speed will come automatically I believe when you have had 1 to 2 month on this schedule. But hard tempo-runs in this phase is not necessary, the base is most important. I remember when I came to market control and started running with you & El Maco, you did ER,s while I was on TR every time (it was not the best appoach for me), but when the continuity established I started to get stronger & faster...... :-) Good luck !
