Seattle to Portland Bike Ride

Successful completion of the 332 KM Seattle to Portland Bike Ride over the weekend!
The majority of riders break up the distance into two days, with an overnight stay at about the halfway point. We decided to go 3/4 of the way on Saturday (242 KM's) and have a shorter day on Sunday (90 KM's).
Weather was ideal. Cool and cloudy, with the sun coming out on Saturday afternoon, but still not too hot (22 degrees C).
We started on Saturday morning at 07:00.
Photo on left was during one of the more tranquil sections of the ride (kind of reminded me of Vätternrundan)
Food, drink and other support along the ride was superb!
The downside of both days, however, was the sheer number of riders that started at the same time (10,000 participated in the ride, and most started between 05:00 and 07:00). We saw many rider accidents for no other reason than congestion. Also the route had long stretches on busy highways with trucks and other large vehicles passing by at high speeds (100 KM/HR plus). My overall reflection on the two days was that the stress of avoiding accidents and traffic was almost more exhausting than the physical demands of riding for 14 hours.
Our non-impressive approximate results were as follows (my F305 died before we completed the first day and I forgot to bring the charging cradle):
332 KMs
Riding time 13:30
Avg Riding Speed 25 KM/HR
Overall time 16:15
Now it is time to focus on running again!
Twelve weeks to go before Portland Marathon. I fell slightly behind my plan, but will be ramping up over the next several weeks.

  1. Congratulations from Munsö ! You did it well. This 16:15 hours is absolutley worth its price, it's a mental booster. Agree, it sounds scary with large vehicles in > 100Km/h. You may need to update to a F310 if you will apply for more such long races :-)
