I did it!

After a fantastic week of running I beat my old "week record". This week I ran 122.28km. I think that my second best week is back in March 2007 when I ran appr 105km. So why did I do this?

First of all I simply wanted to do something to spice up the kind of boring running during end of July.

Secondly I wanted to stretch the limits. I remember back in 2004 when I started to run. The first time I ran 5km was an astonishing achievement. Back then I couldn't image that I would be able to run 10km during one single run in my entire life. When I did run 10km I took an important step - pushing the limits.

The limits I pushed this week are two:

1. It is actually possible and even nice to run twice a day. Instead of pushing yourself to a long run, why not split it up? Make a nice 13km run during the morning and a 7km recovery run during the evening. It was almost like massage for the legs since I did these runs very slowly.

2. The 100km / week limit is gone. Since 2007 running >100km has felt a lot (to say the least). As you can see in the facts and figure table my longest run so far this year was appr 82km. With this week of 122km I now understand that it is actually possible to run >100km. But the most important lesson is to understand that running a 70km is actually not that long distance. Should be able to do frequently. Just push the limits and a new step is taken.

Secret to success?

Above you see what I eat every morning. If it works? Actually don't know but I don't dare to break this chain now. So until I am injured again this is the recipe of success.

Another factor of success are the recovery runs that you can see on GarminConnect. Running with a heart rate of <60% your max. Yes I know - sounds like walking. I would rather say - sounds like massage for the legs! Try it out!

Lastly I have tried to run different distances during the entire week. Not all the time the standard 10km runs. I have done 17km runs, 6km runs, 8km runs, 12km runs etc. Don't let your body get used to the same distance over and over again (Mr L!)

So finally - I did it! The legs are stiff now but hopefully no injury.

Next week is a Recovery Week!

  3. A fantastic report, you have showned us that a week beyond 100km is not impossible. You know I have a personal definition, more than one run per day = proffesional. You have for sure left the frequent amateurs level now....
And yes, yes, yes, yes, your supplimnets are perfect. Without at least 5mg Mg per day this wouldn't be possible, and "B-bombers" are so right !!! Can you swear that there is nothing else on your list we should have knowned about ???

Once again the biggest congratualations, no-one will ever touch that week......?
