Slooooow running - but it works !

Since my last posting I've followed my plan - done in average two runs and two workouts per week. It seems to work (as long as I don't exceed HR 70% for longer periods). The runs have been more like recovery runs at HR 60-65% and last week I added a few speed sequences in my run, but it hit my piriformis and gluteus a few days later so I'm back on my easy runs at 60-65%...it's not always too easy to keep on that slow, but I'm convinced it's the way to do right now.

And yes ! At last I rewarded myself a new toy - Garmin 310XT - I havn't learned nearly all the features yet, so forgive me if it looks weird. I'm not sure the link works either - let me know.
Here you can see my first garmin posting: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/46378948
This is my longest run since June 2009 and although it is ridicously slow and only 7.5km, it felt so goooooood ! I had forgotten how wonderful it can be to do a one hour run without pain !

I want to thank you all ( crazy :) ) lifetime runners - without the inspiration and dedication you are sharing in this blogg I would probably not have been able to mobilize the energy and dedication it has taken to recover from my injury !
I will try to follow my plan and increase gradually and balanced until spring next year. The only goal I have is to keep away from injury. The most difficult - I'm afraid - will be not to be too eager with speed and distance. (in particular with this new toy....)

  1. Super cool Mr W ! Welcome to the Garmin comunity.
So f-ing fun, yes, yes, yes.... It looks real good for you now. I know and we can even see on the elevation profile that your hometracks up around "marka" - highlands are quit hilly. I am sure you will learn this toy quickly, and when the day comes when you don't can get enough of follow up I would be so happy to introduce Sporttracks (local computer program, not shared like GC but with stronger analysis capabilities..)

One thing that sucks a little bit when looking at a run in GC is that we can not directly see the actual date. That's the reason why we always start with like "28 Aug - bla bla bla" as a naming convention..

Have you managed to set up your most wanted data-fields on the 310 yet ? Like current HR, avg.HR , lap times, distance... Just ask any of us if you are facing problems... El MAco & Mr USC has got years of experiences of this garminproduct....

So, welcome to the new garmin life.... :-)

  2. This is great to read. Congrats Mr W. Great to see you out there again. As you say - take is slowly. I think that Mr USC can give some good advise here.

Speed doesnt matter at all at this stage. Take it slow slow slow. I guess you have perfect shoes for your feet?

    Looking forward to your runs!
