Hej!
So far so good as I am midway through my 16 week training program for Portland Marathon on October 10th.
A few highlights and lowlights:
8 August - Great long run! 26 KM at a decent pace and HR!
13 August - Mediocre time trial - One mile (1.61 KM) 6:56 - Not horrible, but I thought I would be faster. Heat was definitely a factor! (31 C)
15 August - Terrible Long Run! 24 KM - Barely finished. New record temp in Seattle (36 C)!
18 August - Good tempo run. First serious attempt this year! Ran with my neighbor, who is exactly where I am in terms of conditioning. Ran 3 KM warm up, 5 KM at tempo pace (5:10 KM, 90% HR - a little too fast), and 3 KM warm down.
I am trying to stick to my program, and am generally on track, but am not convinced I will be ready to break 4 hours in Portland. I think the main issue is that I did not have a solid established base of running when I started on June 21st.
As an insurance policy, I have signed up for Seattle marathon November 28th! If I don't get to my goal in Portland, I'll have another shot in Seattle!

Hi Mr USC ! So great that you are able to follow your training program even in those terrible temperatures. Whatever happens in Portland (I am sure you will hit your goal)it's nice to have a late November marathon as well...
SvaraRaderaI am still not up running with my broadband from my new adress, so frustrating, but anyway I will give you my latest update as soon as I can.
Mr L./.
Fantastic that you will do 2 marathons! My experience is that if you are to run a sub 4h marathon you need to keep a running pace of appr 5:30 during the entire run. This will take to somewhere aroung 3:56 (since you need some stops for drinking etc)
SvaraRaderaThe temperature that you have is like a joke! For me, running in 29 C is totally disaster. I cant even think of how it would be to run in 36 C
As for me I have soon taken two rest days. The reason is that I have caught a terrible cold. Yesterday I couldnt breath with the nose at all. Mr Mizuno is coming this evening and will spend the weekend with us. I hope that we will do a long run this weekend (he will also do Lidingöloppet).
Mr Legend. When, if ever, will you start with intervals or tempo runs?
Mr Legend. How many kms did you do last week? How many are you planning to do this week?
