Karlstad 6-timmars report

Karlstad 6-timmars 2010-09-11

If I summarize this event in a few rows it was;

1) The smallest contest I have ever run (25 participants)

2) The most practical convinient arrangement I've
seen  (our lodging was 25meters from the starting line)

3) The longest run I have ever done.

4) The most familiar & social atmosphere ever ( we joined the buffe-party afterwards, and met so many nice and experienced long distance runners)

5) The most dedicated service team I have ever seen, not so many but so engaged.....

And here comes my small story;

Karlstad was a perfect arrangement in perfect weather with a small but 100% dedicated crew. Reima.H was taking care of the follow up, same good service as in Skövde. I could see my position in the field every single lap during the entire race via a big TV-screen placed just after the service-station. The race was held just 25meters backside Scandic Hotel, so our lodging was best possible by the track. I am very satisfied with my HR, didn't reach my 85% level before marathon distance. However the 6-tempo goal was impossible to hold on to, I was simply to fresh, it wouldn't make sence at all. The track was flat and I actually started first 10k in 5,50-tempo as perhaps the second last runner in the field (only 25 participants). I decided to keep that tempo and after 30km I slowly started to advance in the field. I was up in run all the way up to 50km (except for a short p-paus). 50km was passed after 5,09 and then I knew that I could comfortably power-walk the final 51min and anyway reach 55km. I was actually so fresh that I managed to walk half lap and slow jogg other half lap last 6km. You may say that passing marathon distance at 4,12 was to offensive, but I had long discussions with other runners this night telling me that if you want to reach the 60km boarder you better go for 4,00 at marathon distance...... I don't think that is the problem, I may try it in the future, but one thing was a minus, I became so stiff in my legs the last hour. I have never felt so bad in my legs before. I wasn't able to stretch anything at all afterwards.

But one thing is for sure, I will come back to Karlstad if they arrange something similar in the future...

( I am so angry, my coolpix camera went corrupt, so at least 15 nice pictures is gone )
