January 2012

Ahh, I think it was around this time last year that I posted this photo, but it is a good annual reminder that with some decent training, even an old slug like me can keep up with El Maco on occasion!  And for any newcomers to LR (welcome Fernando!) January is the perfect time to get inspired for a good year of running!

In fact, El Maco Skyped me today to provide the extra push I apparently needed to salvage what remains of the month.

We have had a ice storm here in Seattle, which has shut down the city, (but for you guys in Stockholm, would be considered just a light dusting of snow!)  El Maco, in his typical no excuses management style, has shown me the light, and I will get out there to post my first GC upload of the year.

I hope to have many good training days ahead, as Jubilee Marathon is now less than six months away!

  1. Cool. Looking forward for those GC postings! Will be great to have you running again. As for me - I did my first interval in ages today. Felt ok. I am thinking to make some kind of 2007 spring. Hence try to make one intervalish run per week, but not deadly fast.

  2. So cool to see this picture again. I hope we can catch some new nice pics in July :-)
By the way Mr USC, what is an ice-storm, is it a kind of snow storm or a very cold rainy storm ??

  3. Yesterday's run was not directly a success. I put Will in the running stroller, and one of the tires blew out halfway through. Oh well, it was good to get out, and I have to start somewhere.

Mr. L, the media calls it an ice storm, but what we had was snow, followed by rain which then froze. The problem with bad weather here in Seattle is that we don't have equipment or people ready and available to get out and remove the snow on the roads. Added to that, a lot of trees and branches fell, which brought down power lines, so at one point over 200,000 people did not have electricity or heat.

  4. Ok, thanks Mr USC, but what a mess. I understood by your link that we are talking about what we in Sweden call "Hagelstorm" (when frozen rain falls). Have I told you (yes I guess I have), that back in 2001 when I DNF in Stockholm, there was actually an icerain (no storm) on my second lap (even though temp was +17C). But the main reason for why I didn't make it was that I was in a terribly bad shape :-)

Anyway, the story of last year in Stockholm was similar. When the first real winter in many years came, no-one was prepared.
