I used all my superlatives allready last year to describe this Ultra event... it's heaven & hell at the same place.
It's actually for me just to copy most of my comments from last year. All time high once again, 5,20 (5,25 last year), which I thought would be more or less impossible. First 10k passed after 57min (comp. to 61min 2010). I decided just to move on and my speed decreased over time. When passed 30km after 2,59 (that's hysterical yes I know... would have been Ok for a "Lidingölopp") I was around 7minutes up on last years time. I realized at that time that I have been so stupid, so stupid, should I be forced to just walk the last 10k....
So, here we are, at 35km (just before Bosön where the normal Lidingöloppet's real challanging part begins, I reached my lactic acid threshold, I was completely dead. The 5hours pacemaker-runner caught me up and tried to push me to join him in his tempo. He understood my situation and actually showed me how to deal with this situation. Small, small, supersmall steps, with a little bit higher freqency, that will help you he said. I couldn't for my life follow him more than for max. 1km. But I really took in what he said, instead of start power-walking with long steps I now tried with small-step-running half the way uphills to tackle my cramp tendesis...... and that worked out well I guess. Last 10km was 100% that concept for me. You should have seen me after "Karinbackarna", my steps was not longer than one foot.... Last km from Grönsta gärde down to Lidingövallen, that's unbeatable, it's like running an "Eriksgata" into the paradise, Stockholms stadion has to excuse.
373 ultra runners fulfilled the race (302 last year). Super-professional organization & support along this whole wunderful challanging route explains why this has become the absolute top ultra event there is in Sweden :-)
