Mr L,s Barefoot premier

Hi there !
Today I did test barefoot running for the very first time. After 5km warm up I did 2km barefoot on asphalt. A very special "feel free" was first thing I felt. I don't believe my running technique shifted so very much. I guess I have already converted my running more towards the front of my foot then my heels. But this was very nice & I felt perfect afterwards :-) :-)

I believe this is very good training. I will try to find some very thin shoes (or just sandals), to be able to go out there for some more nice trail running routes, and test it for let's say 4 or 5 km as well.....

Of course I was a little bit afraid so I did slow down the tempo a lot to avoid sharp stones and other shit on the pavements :-) :-)

But  all i n all a very nice experience.

  1. What a massive surprise that you - Mr Legend - would try barefoot running. If you also buy some barefoot shoes like Mr W then this blog is all of a sudden Swedens Barefoot running site number one!

So what this just an experiement or will you continue to run like this Mr L?

  2. Congratulations Mr L ! You are so very right when you describe the "free" feeling ! Nice to hear that you already are running forefoot/wholefoot :) Then you will have a much easier transition than I had. The risk is, that once you get the real taste of it, you may gradually begin to dislike your old supported running shoes...he, he :)
By the way: did you experience a kind of sensation in your sensor nerves under your feet afterwards ? I did in the beginning, especially after running gravel tracks.
Be aware that running barefoot activates not only the calves, but also those small muscles in the toes, foot, ancles, knees and hips needed for stabilization that have been deactivated in the supported shoes. So keep it is easy, to enable those muscles to adjust :)
Once again, it so fun and stimulating to hear that you have jumped into it and that it was a nice experience !!!
    Who's next ?

  3. Hehe, I can honestly say that I got very inspired by "Born to run" even though everything is for sure not about "superlatives" in my world at least...

The true fact that I have an allomost "clean sheet" when comes to "injuries" from 2008 an on, doesn't mean anything about tomorrow. I will at least try do go for barefoot or Sandals alternative training a couple of runs/month.

Yes, W ! You're right a felt very strange under my feet yesterday evening. It was a little bit like burning. Was that specific for the asphalt perhaps ??

  4. The sensation you felt under your feet after the run is because your nerves under your feet are fucked up after a whole grown up life in shoes. The sensation will be even more noticable after running on gravel...

This sensation will gradually go away when your sensors begin to function normally. This took many months for me :) Today I don't notice this sensation at all.

  5. Ok, that seems understandable, but I guess I am not ready for gravel yet :-)
